Six Baltimore Officers Indicted in Death of Freddie Gray

A grand jury in Baltimore has indicted the six police officers charged in the arrest of Freddie Gray, who died April 19 after being injured while in police custody, the stateā€™s attorney for Baltimore City,Ā Marilyn J. Mosby,Ā said Thursday.

The charges returned by the grand jury were similar to the charges Ms. Mosby announced about three weeks ago.

At the news conference, Ms. Mosby said the grand jury had brought a range of charges against all six officers and had affirmed the most serious charge against the van driver, Officer Caesar R. Goodson Jr., of second-degree depraved-heart murder.

The other officers are Lt. Brian Rice; Sgt. Alicia White; Officer Garrett E. Miller; Officer William G. Porter; and Officer Edward M. Nero.

The death of Mr. Gray, 25, a week after he suffered a spinal cord injury brought to a boil long-simmering tensions between the police and poor neighborhoods in this majority-black city, culminating in rioting and looting.
