Since then, he has committed his life to improving the lives of others through education, leadership, and service. He is a 2003 graduate of Jefferson County High School. Dr. Hammitte has secured almost $10 million in grant funding and implemented a variety of new programs, including three federally-funded after-school programs and the Jefferson County Early Learning Collaborative, a state-funded four-year-old pre-K program in collaboration with Headstart and local childcare centers. In 2023, the school district made history again by affording two high school seniors to graduate with an associate degree from Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
