The ACT-SO competition is the culmination of a year’s worth of local programs hosted by NAACP branches across the country, which brings mentoring and scholastic enrichment to youth while fostering community, achievement, and excellence within Black communities.

Who is Eligible to Participate?

High school students who are citizens of the United States, enrolled in grades 9-12 and are amateurs in the categories of competition are able to participate. Each competition has different criteria and are usually sent out based upon category.

Participants can compete in up to three (3) categories. 

The benefits students gain is a learning experience first and foremost. Our main focus is enrichment and mentorship.  The local competition showcases the hard work of the students. 

Students receive medals based upon scoring. There can only be three winners (gold, silver, and bronze status) per category offered. 

Any student scoring 95 or higher (Gold medal status) only, goes on to compete at the National ACT- SO competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 13-17, 2024 to represent the great state of Mississippi.
